If your slushy is not turning out, it is almost always one of these.
1. The cup was not frozen long enough
Four to six hours, and the gel needs to be solid all the way through, not just cold to the touch. A cup that went in two hours ago will make a cold drink and nothing more. If you are unsure, leave it overnight. There is no way to over freeze it.
2. The drink went in warm
The second most common cause, and the easiest to fix. The cup holds a fixed amount of cold. A room temperature drink spends most of it just cooling down. Chill the drink first.
3. Not squeezing long enough
Thirty to sixty seconds of steady squeezing. That can feel like a long time when you are standing there, and a lot of people stop at ten or fifteen seconds. Keep going until you feel the resistance change.
4. Putting the liner in the dishwasher
This is the one that causes permanent damage rather than a disappointing drink. Dishwasher heat degrades the cooling gel over time, and a cup that has been through a few cycles will stop holding its cold properly. Hand wash the liner, always.
5. Expecting the same result from every drink
An unsweetened tea will never come out like a full sugar soda, because sugar is what creates the fine crystal texture. Something with pulp in it will not slush evenly, because solids block the liquid from moving against the cold wall. Neither is a fault. If you want the smoothest result, use a well chilled, sweetened, pulp free drink.
If none of these apply
If the cup has been frozen overnight, the drink was cold, you squeezed for a full minute, and it still will not thicken, the cup may not be holding its cold any more. Email info@slushyfun.com. Every order is covered by a 30 day guarantee.
